Interested applying for Graduate School or for an NSF GRFP?

Many parts of the PhD application process rely heavily on a “hidden curriculum” of knowledge that is less accessible to applicants outside of privileged positions. Before one of my undergraduate mentors pointed it out, I had no idea it was possible to have a PhD that was funded. I was lucky and privileged to receive excellent mentorship on my application process. I am passionate about diversifying academia, which means offering that same knowledge to those outside of typical power structures. Applicants or potential applicants at any stage of the process are welcome to reach out me.

If you are considering applying to a PhD program in political science, public policy, or public health, particularly with concentrations in health policy and management, please feel free to reach out to me for advice on a variety of issues. I am happy to read and give comments on personal statement drafts, CVs, and other parts of the application, or to discuss where to apply, potential mentors, aspects of the profession, etc. I can also make connections to faculty, administrative staff, or other graduate students who may be helpful resources.

I was also a 2020 recipient of the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship, and I am happy to answer questions or provide feedback on statements for people applying for this program. This offer is especially targeted to people of color, women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, first generation college graduates, and other communities traditionally underrepresented in academia. Please reach out to me at the email address linked below.
